Have you ever seen the words “Reviewed by” next to a blog post? It’s becoming increasingly common for publishers to do this and give credit to more than one person.
In this image below you can see the main author is shown next to “Written by”. There’s also another user who is shown next to “Reviewed by”. This image was created with the PublishPress Authors plugin.
This “Reviewed” by feature is increasingly common, particularly with important information such as medical advice, financial tips, and product reviews. It’s common now for medical sites to use the line “Medically Reviewed by” and list a doctor’s name. This next screenshot is a good example of that:
Why Are Websites Using “Reviewed by”?
Have you ever heard of Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines? If you’re involved in online publishing my guess is that you have. E-E-A-T is really important for publishers. It’s a fancy acronym that stands for Expertise, Experience, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness.
If you’re running a WordPress website, these guidelines play a big role in determining where your site shows up in Google’s search results. Basically, Google wants to make sure your content is reliable, so it’s important to show that your posts are trustworthy. One great way to do this is by adding a “Reviewed by” section to your blog posts.
Showing “Reviewed By” on WordPress Posts
The PublishPress Authors plugin is a handy tool that helps you easily create, manage, and showcase authors for all your WordPress content.
One of its cool features is “Author Categories,” which lets you give different types of credit to each author. For example, you can recognize someone as an “Editor,” a “Photographer,” or a “Reviewer.”
The best part? The “Author Categories” feature is available in both the Free and Pro versions of PublishPress Authors! You’ll find a dedicated “Author Categories” screen where you can effortlessly add, remove, enable, or disable different categories. There are four default categories to get you started: Author, Coauthor, Reviewer, and Editor.
Your first step is to enable the “Reviewer” category. Click the “Quick Edit” link and you can then check the “Enable Category” box. You can also want to change the “Reviewer” to “Reviewed by”.
You can now easily add authors to the “Reviewed by” category. The “Authors” section on your post editing screen has been updated, and it looks like this screenshot below. Just drag and drop the authors into the “Reviewed by” section—it’s that simple!
The final step is to choose how your “Reviewed by” authors show on the front of your website. In PublishPress Authors, the Author Category will not show by default and must be added to your Author Boxes.
In the Free version of PublishPress Authors, you can show the category next to fields on the Author’s profile. Follow these steps to display the “Reviewed by” category.
- Go to the “Author Boxes” screen and edit the box that is marked as “Default”. I’m going to use the “Boxed” example.
- Click the “Display Name” option and check the box next to “Show Author Categories”. In this screenshot below, we’ve now added the category next to the “Display Name”.
The screenshot below has another, similar example. This time we’re using the “Inline with Avatars” layout.
PublishPress Authors Pro has a feature that allows you to do more with Author Categories. It provides an “Author Categories Box” feature. This is a display format for your users that is specifically designed to group authors together in their categories.
This screenshot below shows the “List Authors Block (Categories)” display option:
This next screenshot shows the “Boxed (Categories)” layout:
You can easily customize everything you see in these screenshots! The Author Boxes come packed with options to tweak the font, size, colors, layouts, and more. Plus, if you’re into coding, you can even create your own Author Display templates to make it truly yours.
